SKion GmbH is entering the field of energy storage systems by taking a 20 percent stake in the BMZ Group, a leading independent developer and manufacturer of lithium-ion system solutions in Europe. BMZ offers products and services along the battery value chain from cell to battery to 'Second Life' and disposal.
SKion sees great potential in BMZ and in the market. Energy transition is only possible if energy can be stored in battery systems. In addition, digitization is driving the need for storage solutions. BMZ will play to its strengths here: technological knowledge, innovative spirit and a large product catalogue, with systems for home and industrial storage, power and garden tools, medical technology, e-mobility and industrial applications. This investment is also a strategic step for SKion. It complements the holdings related to renewable energy and expands SKion's commitment to the circular economy. 'Second Life', the secondary use of batteries, and recycling offer BMZ interesting perspectives, the first projects are already underway.
